The Jacquard a time to change

When a design is converted from artwork to computer data that will drive the embroidery machine today it is known as digitising. That is when the skills of the digitiser (a human) working with modern software creates the design into a programme that the machine will be driven by to embroider the garment. In the old days pre computer is was done by hand and known as producing the jacquard. Old habits die hard and although we use the latest computer sytems we will have to update our terms. Goes to show how old some of us are getting. Yes we will update the web site to reflect the new terms that have crept into the English language.

Kustom Kit manage colour range

Kustom Kit have been rather clever this year and have started to match their colour range across several of their products. This will allow Companies choosing uniform colours across several garments. An example is the polo range will colour match several business shirt colours, so when you want polo shirts and shirts for company uniforms one can get a corporate colour throughout the clothing range. A great way to get a bespoke colour for your range of clothing without having to pay a fortune for taylor made clothing. Contact Acorn for details of products and the personalisation available.

Recycling uniforms

Festival Place shopping centre in Basingsoke has announced the recycling of all old uniforms according to a recent press report. The old uniforms are to be sent to Devizes Textiles a recycling company in the south west of England. They will either be sent to Africa or recycled for industrial use. For information on recycling your old corporate or work wear contact Devizes Textiles http://www.devizestextiles.com/

Acorn will be happy to quote for your new Fair Trade or organic clothing, personalised to your requirements.

Big Mac gets make over

It has been reported in a recent trade magazine that McDonald’s is to roll out a new staff uniform designed by no less than Bruce Oldfield. The new designer uniform will hit the high streets during the summer to all 1,200 restaurants through out the UK. The bit that caught my eye is the 67,000 staff. Wow that is a lot of uniforms !

So next time your thinking of updating for Company business wear just be thankful you haven’t got to kit out 67,000 people.

Barak Obama T shirts

Acorn have printed and supplied several thousand Obama t shirts for the European Market. Acorn worked with the American owned UK based Company World Post Services to produce a full colour process design that would be sold through out Europe. Once the trials were completed the artwork and positives were then supplied to the Amercian T shirt printer chosen by WPS who are printing them for the US market.
The  full colour design was reproduced and prepared by Acorn’s own art department. To buy a tshirt supporting Obama visit http://www.ihaveaobamadream.com/

Another great year for Acorn

The end of May saw another year end for Acorn and another record yet again. Our web site is busy as ever and we are handling more orders per month than ever before. Our in house design and manufacturing facility allows us to control quality and ensure tight dead lines can be met. The customer base remains amazingly wide with clients such as the BBC, ITV, Habitat, and at the other end of the spectrum small groups, clubs and societies are well catered for. The great flexibility comes from having our own production unit which enables us to react to all customers large or small.

Delivery Costs soar

It had to happen, with all the news of oil prices moving up the transport industry would be hit big time. Whilst MP’s try to get their mileage allowance up the rest of us have to cough up. TNT have announced a £2 surcharge for delivering to a private address and in general all the carriers are increasing their charges. Acorn will try to absorbe some of the increased delivery costs where it can.

POWERNAP AND SAVE THE PLANET

I came across a great little gadget in one of our trade mags the other day and thought I would share it with you. It’s sold as a promotional idea but it’s one that can save energy.

Put your computer on snooze with this latest promotional idea that will help save the planet – and cut energy bills by up to £50 a year.

The Eco-button is the latest creative idea from Firebrand, who seek out the best in technology led, and eco-friendly promotional concepts. Just touch the Eco-button when you go for a break, pick up the phone, or head off to a meeting, and your computer slips into an energy saving ecomode. A touch of any computer key gets you straight back to where you left off without having to re-start.

And every time the computer leaps back into life, a window pops up saying how much has been saved so far on carbon, power and money – which at around £50 per computer can bring big savings for any organisation with multiple computer users. (Typically, 50 computers can save around 6.8 tonnes of CO2 and £2000 a year in energy bills.)

A great idea, see more on their webiste
