Corporate Clothing

Busy June continues

This year Acorn have been very busy with all departments working flat out to ensure we get the orders out on time. With the new members of staff on board in the screen printing dept we have started a second shift in the print room to ensure we hit the deadlines.

Adam Jones maintains Championship lead.

The latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship were contested at Croft in North Yorkshire last weekend and Solihull driver Adam Jones maintained his lead in the Independents Championship.  The weather conditions were atrocious resulting in parts of the meeting having to be abandoned but for the three Touring car races Adam kept his head and managed to stay out of trouble finishing all three races in the points with an overall second position and a place on the podium for race three giving him two trophies one for being the winning Independent and one for his second place.

Adam commented “I knew things would not be easy as the weather was deteriorating rapidly and sure enough race one had several stoppages and was then finished early due to accidents and the track being flooded.  Race two was slightly better although still not good but I managed to finish in sixth place.  For race three the track had dried a little and from the start I pushed hard and managed to obtain second place which I held for most of the race and was closing on the leader when the chequered flag was dropped.  As always I would like to thank local firms Acorn Printing, Air Cool Engineering, Bodywork (Solihull), Wheelmania together with all my other sponsors for their support”.

All Acorn has to say is well done Adam Again !!!

The team at Acorn

Jaguar Track Day

Racing XKRThe racing spirit of Jaguar the invitation called it. A free day out at the invitation of Jaguar, now that’s what I call a perk. Oulton park race track was the venue and several gleaming jaguars lined up for the guests to drive including the new XKR.

Yes they did let us out on the track behind the wheel and what a great day it has been. With a racing driver next to you feeding instructions as to when to brake, accelerate etc  it was a truly fantastic experience.

Acorn supply several Jaguar dealerships with staff workwear and business wear for the sales team, so hence the day out. Am I going to buy one ? mmm…….. Maybe one day and in the the mean time I can dream on.

New instructions for the sales team lets find some Lamborghini and Ferrari dealerships to supply !

still coming down to earth

BTCC news ! Adam Jones Qualifies 11th at Thruxton

The Acorn sponsored independent Seat Driven By Adam Jones qualified 11th on the grid for the first of tomorrows three races at Thruxton in the 2008 British Touring Car Championship.  The works Vauxall driven by Tom Onslow-Cole is on pole. Watch it on ITV  live tomorrow and look out for the Team Air Cool car no. 21. Adam called in to the factory on his way down to Thruxton yesterday and took with him some stickers to give away on Sunday during  the lunch break when the pits are open for the public walk about. Every one gets a chance to see the drivers up close and get autographs and freebies.

And I thought cricket wasn’t a dangerous game

Last year our senior design guy Duncan broke his ankle early in the cricket season. Last night in one of the first games of the year he popped his knee cap and the hospital received a visit from him again until 3 am this morning. We now have Duncan back on crutches with a torn tendon that cannot be examined for three weeks until the swelling goes down. So another early summer on crutches. We can not understand it as no one seem to move that fast on a cricket field !!!!

Maybe he should just stick to cards. Get well soon we need you.

It’s our Birthday

25 years this month. We are celebrating Acorn’s 25th year in business this month. Acorn was born from a need for the family group of sport shops to print uniforms for the staff. It was decided to invest in screen printing equipment and so Acorn was born. It was soon apparent that there was a need for printed clothing and Acorn was established in it’s own right.

Over the last 25 years technology within the screen printing industry has changed considerably. 25 years ago was a far cry from today’s computer generated artwork and printing machines. Artwork text was produced  by letter set and camera work . The darkroom now long gone (and a good job to) is just a distant memory.

Acorn today is still a family business and with the family being involved in the printing industry for 6 generations there is a long family tradition associated with all forms of printing. Today Acorn have a production department that both Print and embroider garments for a wide range of customers. Acorn was traditionally involved  in promotion, leisure wear and subcontract printing, that has been expanded to promotioanl gifts with two new divisions being created Acorn workwear and Acorn Signs.

The sign divison caters for  Exhibition signs, banners, shop signage and vehicle livery with it’s own workshop onsite at Coventry.

All the team look forward to our next 25 years. Acorn will continue to invest in the new technology as it appears over the horizon.

Acorn takes the flag

Another good day at the office

Adam Jones stormed through the final race of the day to take a well deserved first independent over the line. Finishing 7th Adam is still waiting for the 2008 power unit from Seat. His current engine is about 15 hp down on the 2008 spec and on this faster circuit it shows.

Adam is now 9th in the BTCC 2008 championship. Some of the Acorn crowd were there to cheer him on.

The next round of the BTCC series is at Thruxton on the 17th and 18th of May

Adam Jones has a great weekend at Rockingham

BTCC Podium place for Adam

The second meeting of the season saw Adam get a 3rd in the final race of the day in the wet at Rockingham today. The highest placed independant entered car saw Team Aircool battle it out in awful conditions with visibility almost nil at times. Some great racing with the first 4 places swapping several times during the race. A great performance from Adam. Look out for the Acorn sponsored car at Donnington on May the 4th. The Acorn Team will be there to cheer him on. Well done Adam.

IAAF World Cross Country Championships

The Scottish Athletics Host the World Cross country Championships in Edinburgh in just 18 days time. Acorn Printing have been chosen to supply the 81 T shirts for the opening ceremony. 81 School children will parade through the Stadium bearing the flags of each nation. They will wear a unique t shirt each one an individual design bearing the National flag of each entrant. Acorn worked in partnership with Scottish Athletics to design and produce the t shirts. The flexibility of the Acorn team and the quick turn around and support were a major factor in Acorn being Chosen. The new Brother DTG machine played a big part in the ease and speed which Acorn were able to turn the job around.Clive Horlor comments ” using traditional methods for small or individual runs such as sublimation or traditional transfer paper would have made this job a time consuming task”. With the Brother GT-541 it became a viable job that could be produced quickly with excellent results. Look out for them at the opening event.
