New fashion trend takes printed polo shirts from boardroom to bedroom

Filed under: Fashion and Trends — Andrew on February 14, 2012

Sport was the big influence for the 2012 Spring and Summer collections had a distinctly sporty look – Vivienne Westwood’s Olympics-inspired printed t shirts being a case in point. Roll on a year however, and customised hoodies will be set to get a touch more intimate, with street clothing making the migration to lounge wear.

This, at least, is the opinion of industry specialist Inside Fashion, who has just released their Spring/Summer 2013 Lingerie Forecast. A leading news provider to the fashion industry, they say casual leisure wear, such as printed t shirts, will be a key identifier for intimate apparel in 2013. This is good news for manufacturers of customised hoodies, printed polo shirts and other personalised clothing.

There has been a steady growth in sales of customised hoodies and t-shirts in recent times, driven by a change in consumer lifestyles and economic cutbacks. Government austerity measures mean people have had to curtail their leisure spending. There has been a drop in numbers going out to pubs, clubs and cinemas, but a rise in home entertainment packages, DVD rentals and virtual activity games.

Printed t shirts and hoodies are ideal for going out or staying in, and can be dressed up or down as you please. New looks for loungewear include streamlined woven or printed jersey bottoms, and fitted printed t shirts with a strong focus on fashion. For guys, it’s drawstring bottoms and loose-fitting printed t shirts in natural fabrics.

Inside Fashion also reports growing interest for urban homestyle from more mature consumers – proof this new trend will go a lot further than simply wearing a leavers hoody to bed.
