Eco cotton sales boom

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Organic cotton sales shot up during the last 12 months. A growth of 152 % has been reported with a new level of 145,872 metric tons being sold on the world markets. $40 % of the sales came from new organic cotton projects.
The news today that Wal-Mart has set out ambitious plans despite the turn down in trade is to continue to expand the sourcing of products as organic cotton to strengthen their product range which is considered socially responsible. With the UK’s own M&S leading the high street Fair Trade and Organic sales expansion there is going to be a shortage and the smaller companies who started the revolution will have to fight to retain their contracts with the growers. The market place waits to see if the new interest by the international companies forces up the prices even in this world trading downturn.

Fair Trade & Fair wear

Monday, October 6th, 2008

It’s that lady Flo who is behind it. In the UK we are well accustomed to the Fair Trade logo is has almost become a brand in it’s own right. Fair Wear is known in Europe however both are registered with FLO.

“Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International”  to give her the full title, is the organisation to which the labeling organizations are licened. FLO also facilitates business between fair trade producers and traders.

In addition, FLO helps determine the price of goods sold under its certification. It does so by setting a baseline price that is allied to the estimated values of a sustainable living wage in the source country. It also takes into account the social and economic development needs of cotton farmers. If the baseline price is lower than the world market price, FLO adds a premium and extra funds are dedicated to social and economic development.

Earth Positive Clothing hold lower prices

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Last month we lowered the price of Earth Positive  clothing. It’s the one range that is Fair Wear registered as well as been organic cotton and being very dainty on its feet with a very low carbon footprint. Remember it ? yes its the one that ticks all the Eco boxes.

With the world in melt down, the house market, the banks and the spiralling prices for energy EP will be holding their lower prices. Earth Positive apparel does not rely on oil for its energy, it relies on wind power which is clean renewable and free. Overall this makes EP clothing a very sensible way to go.

Check out the Acorn website and see the complete range. Acorn can embroider and print all the garments with your logo or strap line.
