It’s hard being an England fan & expensive

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Just how long does it take to build another team. Since the World Cup win of 2003 England apart from bursts at the Last world Cup have really had a miserable time. Even during their 4 years as World Champions most of the games were not World class. Apart from the last World cup run England have not been inspiring to watch. It can’t all be the players or even the managers fault, something fundamental is not working. The basics of the organisation must be at fault.

The cost of a Twickenham ticket for an International is very high, when fans are paying up to £80 with even the half decent tickets being over £50 they deserve better. How long will it be before they start to demand value for money. This Autumn we have not had value for money

Christmas a time to think of others

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Every Christmas Warwick Students Union think of the local people less fortunate than themselves. The student Union hold a raffle and all the proceeds go to a local charity that provides food and shelter for those whose need is greater than most.
It’s good to see that youngsters who are in a privileged position of learning spare a thought for those without friends, family, homes or even food at Christmas.

Acorn are pleased to support their efforts and hope the raffle raises much needed cash for the charities involved.

Edinburgh’s ugly duckling

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Spent the weekend in Edinburgh so missed Englands slaughter at Twickenham, but what did I find down the Bottom of the Royal mile, yes sat there was the ugly duckling, just four years old and already looking 20 years old and very out of place is the Scottish Parliament building.

The Parliament building is not only  darn right ugly it just goes against all that is attractive about Edinburgh. The original build estimate  was £10 to £40 million the final cost of £414 million is like the building unbelievable.

Opposite this carbuncle is the Palace of Holyrood House which shares it’s beauty with most of the other buildings in Edinburgh. The sky line is littered with magnificentbuildings luckily the Parliament building is not on the Sky line.

Edinburgh is a great City with great people and lots to see. Well worth a visit. It’s nice to see where all our Fringe T shirts go.

A small record label in Coventry have taken a bold step to start a campaign in Coventry, Leicester and Birmingham to drive home the message of knifes and guns should be removed from our streets. The Campaigners are planning to use music as their vehicle to get the message across that knives cost lives.

In a recent Government survey 46% of 14 to 17 years old carried a knife. The real shocking thing is 24 % of 11 to 13 year olds also carried a weapon.

Breakin Da Mould a Coventry based Record Label are about to launch a record for Christmas with a Local artist which will highlight the problem. ITV and Radio Mercia have already given air time to the Campaign and Coventry Rugby Cub have put their muscle behind this great idea.

Clive Horlor Acorn Printing’s Managing Director reports that Acorn does support many Charity and safety Campaigns each year but is particularly pleased to support such a worth while Campaign by a group of local Music Makers who have direct contact with the Kids who are vulnerable.
