More medals for the Brits

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

I for one, understand why we are doing so well. Third place with 16 Golds and if you took Phelps out of the American equation we would be pushing for second. It is noticeable that it is the traditional sports that we excel in, ones where we have history take sailing, I mean look at Drake, Cook and Nelson they all got Golds. Wasn’t it Richard the third who wanted his Kingdom for a horse and where did the saying “on yer bike” come from, yes of course it’s an ole English proverb.

Things we’ve always been good at. Can’t understand why we didn’t do better in archery, Christ we had enough practice over several hundred years, certainly stuffed the French a few times

anyway keep cheering for Harry and England (not sure what event he’s in)

Will keep you up to date,  Clive

Acorn dress the Army

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Acorn are proud to supply the Salvation Army. It is amazing just how much work the S A do and how varied it is today. For example I pinched this little snippet from their web site.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has confirmed that, subject to final contract negotiations, the venue for the Mountain Biking events will be The Salvation Army’s Hadleigh Farm.

In 1890 when William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, bought Hadleigh Farm. He helped men who were living in very poor conditions in London and gave them the chance to train to become farmers. Booth found the Hadleigh Farm trainees farming jobs in Britain. Opened in 1990, the Training Centre maintains a long history of Salvation Army work with the unemployed and marginalised in Hadleigh.

See their site for more information http://www1.salvationarmy.org.uk/uki/www_uki.nsf

Brits go for it

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Well what a weekend Rossi wins on the bikes, Britain go for more medals and I fly my new kite. Adam Jones our man in the BTCC had a mixed weekend up at Knock hill. Middle of the field in all three races, still missing a bit of power. Then off to Silverstone and Brands Hatch to end the season. Still 9th in the championship is pretty good work from the team.

Birthday Treats

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Well what a great Saturday August the 16th was. A day to remember, apart from the anniversary of the Death of Elvis it was my birthday. Tickets for the Moody Blues at the NEC from my daughter, A new 3.3mtr Flexifoil Power kite from my son and the promise of some bits for my camper from the wife. Plus a great lunch in Leamington.
The Camper is a 1971 Bay window with a Devon pop up. I have been working on it for 10 years on and off (more off than on ) but this year or maybe next it will hit the road.

A boards at great prices

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

A Boards advertise your business
With times getting harder for a business to get an order it pays to advertise. A boards are a cheap and very effective way to let the public know whose working on the house or placed outside a business premises catches the eye. Compared with advertising in the local press it’s very easy on the pocket and one of the most direct forms of advertising.
They can easily be folded up and transported to the next job or simply put away at night. Call Acorn for a quote on Free phone 0800 0190 552 and ask for Duncan.

Ladies lead the way in Beijing

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

7 Medals for Britain so far and the girls have 5 of them. Well Emily Pankhurst would be  proud, but what has happened to our men. How come one American guy on his own can win more Golds than all our’s put together ? Maybe we should get Jeremy to send the Stig across to sort them out.

Designer brand chips into the Golf market

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Calvin Klein having already diversified into swim wear takes a swing at the corporate golf wear market. Eurostyle based in Ireland will distribute the new golf range throughout Europe. The Calvin Klein Corporate range for both men and women has simple clean lines and classic colours. As yet however, we are yet to see the range hit the market.
It will really be a first for a designer label to introduce a collection for the garment industry that will be stocked in volume for corporate use. We will of course be keeping our ears to the ground and will let you know when it becomes available for us to personalise for one and all.

Fillongley Show wash out

Monday, August 11th, 2008

This years Country side show at Fillongley Warwickshire saw the tractors working flat out to tow people out of the field being used as a car park. The day was very mixed weather with sunshine one minute then lashings of rain the next. It didn’t stop a good turnout at the show but as people ran for cover the beer tents did a thriving trade.
My thanks to young Mr Beaty for the tow out of the field from his £60,000 John Deer tractor
