Fruit of the Loom Care

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Fruit of the loom founded in New York in 1851,is today one of the biggest global manufacturers of knitted garments. Fruit of the loom Europe currently manufacture over 1.6 million T shirts every week As many large brands FOL care about it’s manufacturing employees. The plant in Morocco pays it’s staff well over the minimum wage and their working hours are controlled. They provide health care, dental care and many other employee benefits. Investment has been made in the local infrastructure even improving the local water supply.
As one of Acorn’s major suppliers it’s nice to know the FOL are supplying garments made in factories where the staff are well catered for. In time, customers will appreciate the work they are doing and this will reflect in improved sales.

Where does all the spam come from

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I read an article last week about spam. In the old days they talked about there being 4 main spam houses throughout the world. Now apparently most spam is generated from 10 million infected computers around the world. The computers are being used without the owners knowledge that they are infected. This is one of the main reasons why it is going to be so difficult to eradicate spam. Innocent people are helping generate spam because they do not have software to protect themselves.

Is spam something the web is going to have to live with ?

24th & 25th Aug Notting Hill Carnival

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Notting Hill in West London may seem a long way from the Caribbean, but during the final weekend of August, its streets erupt with the supercharged noise and colour of carnival with crowds in excess of 1 million. Second only to Rio in its scope, the Notting Hill Carnival has grown to become the biggest street carnival in Europe. Along 3 mile route, flamboyantly dressed participants dance their way to the music of steel bands, reggae and the many licensed static sound systems along the way playing a mix of jazz, soul, hip-hop, funk and drum and bass music.

Many of Acorn  printed T shirts will be on display

A record crowd of over 30,000 saw our own Adam Jones take a fantastic second place in the final race of the day. In wonderful weather Adam had a good day at the office. This makes up for Snetterton where the car took a bit of a bashing. The team head to Scotland for the next event at Knock hill.

If you want to go Green wear Bamboo

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Yes you can now wear a tree. Continental clothing (the same people that make Earth Positive Clothing) have a range of t shirts that are made from Bamboo. It is an inovative eco textile, it grows naturally and is sustainable, thriving without any pesticides being used. The garments when worn stays about 2 degrees cooler in hot weather and when disgarded on to a land fill site will biodegrade.

Ideal clothing for the urban jungle !!!!
